Dear Anon,
In my opinion, there is really nothing magical about a wish box. It is similar to someone keeping a good luck charm.
Since this does not fall into the category of Feng Shui or divinity, I am unable to answer your question.
However, I do not really see any harm in keeping or treasuring it.
