Dear Desiree,
Thanks for your clarification.
In my opinion, stairs leading down may not necessariy mean bad energy. However, it has to be looked on a case-by-case basis.
For example, in Singapore's Business District, there are some office buildings where were purposely built such that every one has to walk down (as you have described) to the lobby. And here, they either have one of the e.g. three elevators or (stairs) to their office that is more than 18 floors high. An example is the `Tong Eng' Building at Cecil Street in Singapore.
The rationale here is that contrary to popular notations; many developments or buildings are of this design for two main reasons:
1. Because the house or building is `sink-in' and its main entrance or lobby can `never' be at a threat from any poison arrows from the street level.
2. In good Feng Shui designed or by sheer coincidence that it now has good feng shui; may be due to the building or house being able to `retain wealth'. Here, I mentioned that one has to look at it at a case-by-case basis.
3. As what can affect the Feng Shui of home is the external environment, the site of your home which covers not only your home/building but several buildings close-by.
Other factors that may influence your home could be what is at the back of the house/building and the interior layout e.g. especially the location of the toilets etc...
Warmest Regards,
Cecil
